Someone brought this to my attention this morning and here came the saddest news of the New Year. Herdsmen killed 50 in New Year attack Residents of six communities in two local government areas of Benue State began the New Year on a sad note when about 50 persons were cruelly murdered in a cold blood by Fulani herdsmen. Casualties included women, children and some members of the Live Stock Guards who were assigned to enforce the anti-open grazing law and many people were seriously injured. The injured ones were receiving treatment at the State University Teaching hospital in Makurdi. The affected communities are Gaambe-Tiev, Ayilamo and Turan all in Logo Local Government Area as well as Umenger, Tse-Akor and Tomatar near Tse-Abi in Nongov District of Guma Local government area. The Nigerian Tribune learned that the invading herdsmen invaded  Gaambe-Tiev, Ayilamo, and Turan around  10:00 am on new year day at the time the people were returning from New year morning service.

The value of human life witness a new low in what is now regarded as the  Capital of cult, militant and political killings of Nigeria. Nigerians are at loss as to how the 'Garden City' of Nigeria has been this political bastardised by two political gladiators who have stomach for this level of bloodletting all in an unholy effort to feather their political nests. As at the time of this report there are no link between politics and this crossover bloodbath, however Nigerians can't rule-out the remote link between these unwholesome mass murder and politics in Rivers State, any longer. While we pray for the repose of the souls of the dead and pray for the fortitude for their families to bear their losses, we will not fail to ask all those behind the incessant massacres in Rivers State to let peace reign in that restive State. In what can only fit a Hollywood action movie; tragedy struck again in Southern Kaduna on New Year day when a respected Traditional Ruler and his wife's life were cut short by men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. According to news reports, the Monarch was killed along his wife, yet there is no official statement to condemn the dastard act of the criminals by the Kaduna State midget-in-Chief or President Buhari. Is this a strategic consent to encourage these incessant acts of violence or is there more to it than meets the eye? The big question before the nation now is: how long will the authorities continue to allow these bloodletting while we remain the laughing stock of international comity, while our country is being rebranded as an unsafe haven for FDIs and foreigners?
